Which is the better bike?

A cruiser is made for just cruising at an easy pace. If you want to climb hills and get exercise to lose weight a comfort bike with gears is the way to go. If you go with gears you will have to have hand brakes. You can also get a cruiser that has 3 to 7 speeds. http://bikebuyers.com/

the cruiser is going to be generally more work for you, as it does not have gears, or a proper braking system. it may look nicer, but in the long term i suggest that you get a normal bike as it will be generally less hassle, especially if you want to get anywhere... :)

Hey Mae! If you have not already chosen one, I would suggest a Beach Cruiser. I say that for a couple of reasons. For one, they are unbelievably comfortable. They are effortless to pedal. It's like exercising without even noticing it! (Although you want to make sure you are properly fitted on the bike otherwise the best ride of your life might turn into the worst) Maintenance is a breeze. Beach Cruisers will hardly ever give you any trouble. If they do, it can most likely be fixed for really cheap! Finally, they are the definitely the better looking bikes. What I mean is that they come in so many different styles, and colors, shapes, and they can be accessorized to your heart's content. A multi-speed cruiser would be an added bonus since you don't have to have hills just to get one. Gears can help with your daily commutes and actually make it easier (especially longer rides). Don't forget to get yourself a lock! Alrighty then. As a final word, there are several things you want to look at when choosing your next bicycle, beach cruiser or not. mae Don't be frightened of the gears. Gears are GOOD! On any ride you have variance in terrain... gears are good. Someday you may want to ride with your friends where there is a hill.... gears are good!. Someday you may wish to have a bike for exercise and fitness... gears are good! Since you stated it will be for use on flat ground, and just for fun, coupled with the fact that you like the looks of the cruisers, I would say buy a cruiser. There are some better quality ones and maintenance will be far simpler, which seems to be in the spirit of the way you intend to use it. Something is not better if you are paying for features you do not need.

all around cruisers are cheaply made, heavy, and crappy. Go with a normal bike. People buy them because they're the anti-spandex bike, but don't realize that they're also a pain in the *** to pedal around. You can ride a normal bike without spandex.
