Why do laws in some places allow kids 12 and under to ride their bikes on sidewalks but not allow adults?
-
So I came to find out that there are laws prohibiting adults to ride their bikes on sidewalks. I heard people argue that it is much more dangerous to ride a bike on a sidewalk. But yet, why do those same laws allow kids 12 or younger to do so? Shouldn't they be forced to ride their bikes on the street too? After all, according to those laws, it's much safer to ride on the streets. I believe it is more dangerous to ride a bike on the street because you could get killed by a reckless driver. I don't care if there is a bike lane. It is not going to stop a drunk or distracted driver (on the phone or texting) from killing me. Who do you think will more likely to respect pedestrians when riding on a sidewalk? An adult or an immature 12 year old kid?

Common sense... Society would rather face the risk of kids hitting pedestrians on the sidewalk than kids being hit by cars on the street. Personally, I wouldn't want to drive on a street with small kids on their bikes with their training wheels on the side of the road. The rest of the adults are riding our bikes on the street. If youre too afraid of being hit by a car then don't ride a bike on the street go to a bike trail. Laws are made for everybody's sake not just to piss you. Yes its possible that I may hit an adult on the street by accident especially if the guy riding his bike is not paying attention and looks like you.
