How to install Derailleur?

How does one install a rear derailleur to a Ross Europa road bicycle?

  • What does it look like? Any diagrams? I recently uninstalled the chain link which the rear derailleur (the part) was encompassed by and now I do not know which way the part is to be positioned back on the chain. And I am unsure if I am missing any parts to the part for it to be secured properly. Pls help me. Thanks, Billy from NJ

I'm not sure whether you're trying to put the rear derailleur back on the hanger, or thread the chain back through the derailleur. To install the derailleur, the cage with the pulley wheels should be hanging down closest to the ground, with the nameplate of the derailleur facing outwards. The big bolt at the top should go through the derailleur hanger. Do a Google image search for "rear derailleur" and you'll find lots of nice pics to help. When you thread the chain through, do so from the top. Pull the chain in front of the top jockey wheel, then thread it behind the lower jockey wheel, through the lower cage, and out again.
