Why doesn't my fixie tire spin and can it be fixed from home?

  • I have a fixed gear bike(fixie) and for some reason when i try 2 ride the crank and the chain move but the tire doesn't accelerate. I'm not a bike expert but i think the barrings are messed up some how. The star on bothe the crank and bike tire move but the wheel doesn't move at all. Can some one please tell me do i need a new rim or can it be fixed. And can someone please tell me how if it can be fixed a youtube video link of what ever you kow will greatly appreaciated. Ps i do have all tools needed and i what rough on the bike. It was my first fixie so i abused it trying to skid and what not. Please give me any info so i can get back on my fixie ASAP. ThNk you.

    You need to remove the lock ring and check the sprocket. Take the wheel off and take it to a bike shop. You need a lock ring spanner and probably a new cog. The lock ring has left handed threads the cog right handed.

If you can spin the wheel by hand, is not the bearings. The connection between the sprocket and the hub is loose or damaged. You probably need a new hub and lace the old rim but it would be just as cheap to get a whole new wheel.
