How to make a GPS tracker?

Why don't they make a gps tracking device for bicylces like they do for pets?

  • Looking online, it seems like I could get a GPS tracker for my pet, which would tell me it's location if it were to say run away. Why don't they make something similar for bicycles? My bike was stolen recently, and I've been looking online to see if there are any tracking devices for bikes. The RF ones i've seen all seem to be reliant on actually seeing the bike, and then using a handheld scanner to see if it's in some database. This seems like it'd only work if you already see/find your bike, but what if you never happen to stumble on your bike? If they can track pets this way, why can't they do it with bikes?

  • Answer:

Why not fit a pet tracker to your bike. I don't know what size they are, but perhaps they'd fit in the seat pillar?

Other answers

A small cellphone hidden under the seat would work. You need to pay for the cell plan that allows your phone to be tracked (new cell phones are required to have GPS installed anyway). See artice reference.
