  • i wanna lose some weight and some fats i wanna join in biking group if i can have friend, and i need advice which is better to use? the mountain bika or the racer bike. please help me i am located in cebu philippines. please advice me about this.

  • Answer:

If you are on the road you should use a road (racing) bike especially if you are going to ride in a group. If you are in a road riding group there is NO other option. Now there are different types of road bikes some for more along the lines of racing, comfortable road riding and fitness. In your case you should go with the fitness road bike. Here is an example: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/road/fx/72fx/ Now you should check with your group because you may need more of a pilot or modome model type. Good Luck!

Racing bicycles are sometimes referred to as road bicycles. You can see what I am getting at. Racing bicycles are vastly superior for on road use, due to decreased drag caused by slicker tyres and lighter frames.

Well personally, I would get a mountain bike. It is funner, cooler, more comfortable, and you can go off-raod whenever you want. However, if you are going to be biking 80 mile rides on the pavement, a racer bike is better.

Wellll....what are the roads like in the philipines? Depending on quality of road, you may want to lean towards mountain bike. You won't go as fast or as efficiently on a mountain bike...a lot of your power is absorbed with the suspension. They're heavier in order to take more punishment. Also, the wheels are wider to accomodate mud. All these things slow you down. But it sounds like speed isn't really what you're going for. I suppose in your situation I'd go mountain. But check out hybrid bikes also (which take a bit from both)

Generally, if you're riding in a group you will want to ride the same type of bike the rest of the group is using. Road bikes are much faster on pavement, but aren't as good on dirt roads, and even worse in trails. Mountain bikes are good on trails and dirt roads, but slower on pavement. If you ride a different kind of bike from the others, you will tend to ride at a different speed from them.

Take a mountain bike with slick tires. Racing/road bikes are not so comfortable, you won't enjoy riding those.
