Which road bike is better?

  • ok i have narrowed down my options for a new entry level road bike. I have decided either to get the GT Gtr4 2008 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gt/gtr-4-2008-road-bike- ec000691 or the Trek 1.2 2008. http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/12-double-2008-road-bike-ec001627 Could any of you possibly give me your opinion on which bike is better. Thanks P.S. These two bikes are available at my local shop and i have done the fitting on both bikes so please dont leave an answer telling me to make sure the bikes fits me.

    Unless Trek modified what they are up to with gear shifters on these bikes, the shifters are the break levers. They push in toward the wheel to shift one way, and there is a thumb switch to go back the other way. Don't know if that makes it more "serious" or not, but I ride a Trek and it's a nice enough bike. Carl...Never said it was as good a bike as a Madone. Only questioned the placement of the shifters making it more serious. And pointing out where the shifters actually are. And I in fact do not currently own a 1.2 (did ride one for some time, though). That said, I think there are wanna be riders, but can't imagine a bike wants to be anything. My point is that Trek bikes are a pretty fair bet, not that the 1.2 listed is the best bike in the world. And the sifters are the brake levers.

I'd go for the Trek. But realize this isn't a serious road bike.The gear shifters are on the top of the handlebars.They should be behind the brake levers.

Not much between these two is there? My preference is the GT, it looks a bit better and the description says it is smooth welded, which is always a nice touch. Both can be improved by changing components as you go along.

The trek 1.2 since I own a trek 2.3 and known that bike is nice if you can afford the up grade to the 2.3 the wheels and tire package are incredible.

Boo2, the 1.2 isn't a serious bike.It's a wannabe road bike. If you want a real bike, look at Treks 6.9...A bike that weighs 28 pounds isn't a serious bike.
