How To Spray Paint?

How to Spray Paint a Bike?

  • I need to Spray Paint this BMX Bike I got, Im just gonna Black it out (Black on Black) I started just took a spray paint can to it. it got paint on the tires and its drippy and looks like crap. I can get more paint- im just wondering how to Spray Paint it without taking it apart (I don't have the tools) it just has to be Decent.

  • Answer:

If you don't do the proper preperation, including some disassembly, you wont get decent results. If you search here there are detailed directions on how to paint a bike by bikeworks. To do a shortcut to the correct method will result in less than decent results. If you must take shortcuts there are still the minimum you must do. 1. clean the frame -- make it free of all soil and residue 2. sand the frame with #600 wet - dry sand paper 3. clean the frame again. 4. mask all parts (with masking tape and/or masking paper) that you didn't remove to keep the spray off them. 5. take your time spraying, holding the can 4"-6" from the frame. shake the can well before use and during painting. apply thin coats allowing for drying time between coats. Drippy paint is usually the result of any combination of not doing all the above except masking. Getting pain on the tires is from not masking or removing them. By the way, removing the parts is much lest time consuming and easier than masking.
