I think all bicyclists should pay road tax and pass a road test.?

here we go again.

Motorists that manoeuvre without indicating should of course should be banned from driving because when I drive they pull out into the road without indicating or looking over their shoulder and they've suposedly taken a driving test!!! Nobody ever built a multi lane motorway costing millions of pounds a mile to build and maintain for cyclists or pedestrians for that matter. Maybe that's one reason cyclists don't have to buy a vehicle excise licence. It's not road tax that's just a colloquial name for it. Yep I ride a bike and I drive a big car too :o)

I highly disagree with this idea. The bicyclists do not need high maintenance roads, the automobiles do. It is the automobiles that require cement, asphalt, etc to ensure proper traction. If there were no cars, bicyclists could get around easy on say a cobble stone or dirt road. When that day comes, then yes, they should pay road taxes. Until then, drivers are responsible for the crap that pollutes the earth, not earth-friendly bicyclists. Perhaps, if a road tax were placed into effect, then they could paint the lanes so that YOU can't ride in that lane...LOL

mmm... I see many errors in your question... First of all, motorists do alot more damage on the road than cyclists. Therefore, cyclists do not need to pay road tax. Second of all, bicycles are suppose to be a easy mode of transportation on the road if say, you dont have a car or license THAT POLLUTES THE EARTH!!!! kids can't take the road test now can they? third of all, its not YOUR road, unless YOU own the property. Overall, look at the motorists. Look at how many incidents there have been. I must agree with Blitz, lgsuckaf..., and Jay. Bicyclists are too road friendly. Automobiles are not. Even if some do pass the road test, there will be morons out there rolling around... They'll pass it eventually... I disagree with Alix B, because sidewalks were made for people. If cyclists all used sidewalks, then many pedestrians walking will be ran over and injured.

goforit, or anyone else, please explain how paying taxes has changed anyones behavior. ONE example please. Yes all those considerate, non-speeding, turn-signal using, patient car drivers do so because of TAXES? Rubbish! Why does it happen in here that some misdirected car driver that happens upon a bicyclist -- that rides his/her bike the (real) way said driver handles his/her automobile -- wants to tax them more and make more laws. Hypocrites! All of you that agree with this question. There is not a one of you that drive an automobile that isn't guilty of speeding, stopping to briefly at a stop sign, running the occasional red light at night when no one is around etc., etc. Get off the cyclists backs.

Too true, and don't forget to go to the logical conclusion and make sure that pedestrians also take a test and pay tax if they want to walk on the road. These guys don't realise that 13 stones on a touring bike at 30mph down a 1 in 8 isn't going to stop in an hurry.

Oh Yeah? Then ALL types of vehicles with no hybrid functions or alternative fuels MUST PAY environmental pollution damage ( and view the slow obvious destruction of the ice caps----) at a gargantuan price as PENALTY then----THAT FAIR ENOUGH? Cyclists would then have the advantage since zero emissions are truly the bastion of the pedal-powered riders WORLDWIDE.
