Who is the best batsman of all time?

So if Sir Don Bradman is the all time best batsman then who is the all time best bowler among these two?

  • George Lohmann(ENGLAND) Matches= 18 Wickets= 112 Best bowling innings= 28/9 Best bowling in a match= 45/15 Average= 10.75! 5Wicket Hauls= 9 10 wicket Hauls= 5 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/16337.html Or is it Sydney Barnes(ENGLAND)? Matches= 27 wickets= 189 Best bowling innings= 103/9 Best bowling in a match= 159/17 Average= 16.43! 5Wicket Hauls= 24 10 wicket Hauls= 7 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/8996.html Both have amazing averages which are way better than Warne, Murali, Mcgra or any body! And also their wicket ratio, 5 wicket haul and 10 wicket haul ratios per match are higher than Murali. It is Similar to Don Bradman who has the best average, fewest match ratio per century and fewest match ratio per double century which is way better than any one else. So who is the all time best bowler if Sir Bradman in the all time best batsman ? It should be one among these two English bowlers? Is it George Lohmann or is it Sydney Barnes? This is an opinion based question. I think George Lohmann is the best bcz he has an unreal bowing average of 10 similar to Don Bradman's 99.94 batting avg. Both have taken more than 100 wickets so none of them were flukes. So what's your answer?

  • Answer:

Probably George Lohmann, but he only played for 10 years where as Bradman played for 20 years. When comparing Bradman and others you not only need to note his astonishing average and all the other things you mentioned, but also the fact he played for 20 years which is only marginly less than Tendulkar and more than most the other modern greats that are either still playing or retired in the past 10 years.

Good call, it has to be Lohmann

its just entirely unknown mate, in bradmans case there are plenty of people still alive that saw him play and are qualified to express an opinion about him, as for lohmann and barnes there is no way of knowing, they are just stats in the scorebook and probably not even a single video is available to see what they were like compared to modern bowlers, we cannot even guess at how fast they may have bowled or whether they were able to swing the ball

Rocket Sceintest

Bradman played 52 tests.Cricket was more evolved compared to lohman times. Could have played more but missed 9 yrs due to world war 2 Lohman played during late 1800s and tat too very few matches.he may have been great.Don't know.
