Who is the best batsman of all time?

Who do you think is the greatest left handed batsman of all time ?

  • I think we should select one for test cricket & one for odi cricket. For example, we all klnow Michael Beven is one the greatest odi batsmen but he wasn't successful in test cricket so it would be right to choose one for test cricket & one for odi cricket.

  • Answer:

Sobres was good at picking an attack apart. I think Gilchrist is too vulnerable early, and always needs a top order batsman to get him started. Graham Pollock was good, but the world missed out on seeing much of him due to Apartheid. Hayden is definately up there. Teams spend ages finding his weakness, then he takes ten miutes fixing it. But I beg to differ with many who underated him, but I think Lara is certainly the best Left Hander. His style was a joy to watch, his footwork mesmerising. I watched his 400 against England and it was an absolute Masterclass in how to rip an attack apart.

I beg to differ with you I have always regarded Adam Gilchrist as one of the best ODI players of all time, and despite the fact that Bevan has a better average than Gilchrist, I would say Gilchrist is the best left handed ODI player of all time (for his ability to turn a match) Now statsitically in tests Graeme Pollock has the best average of retired left handed players, BUT he only played 20 odd matches, I would have to say Garfield Sobers is the greatest, he had an average of just under 58 and he scored 28 100's

oh my BRIAN LARA there is no left handed batsman in the history of the game who was more entertaining and more electric to watch than Brian Lara if you wanna talk about a left handed player whose shots are visually pleasing i would have to say Saurav Ganguly. His timing is impeccable and just a little bit of width on the off could mean a boundary for this guy If you want a left hander who can score quick runs, I would have to say Jayasuriya....Hayden/Gilchrist would be a close second to him

allan border, gutsy player who always was left with getting the aussies out of trouble.

Without question, the best Left hander is Gary Sobers not only as a batsman, but as an allrounder as well. He played very few ODI games towards the end of his career. In ODI, I would pick Gilchrist without any doubt.

Lara by a country mile at the moment for tests. If Hussey can keep up his Bradmanesque record for a couple of years then maybe he will be up there. In ODIs I'd have to say Bevan is the most consistent and he could time a run chase to perfection but I'd have to say Gilchrist is the best. He can just take the game away from an opposing team so fast.

Lara is the All time favourite if we talk abt Test matches ...... he is batsman with immense power.........and good thinking.... no one forget his record of 400* and 500* in domestic.......... I think Anwar is the best one in ODIs ................we didnt forget his 194 against India and the great DADA of India MR.. Ganguly

Saeed Anwar. He scored 194 against India in 1997 and it still stands as the largest score by any batsman and there was no umpiring error in that game. He made 20 centuries too in his career, which is quite a lot for most batsmen. He was solid batsman in tests and ODI too. He had the best average (59) against Australia in his team. And a very good batting average too of around 40 in one days and 46 in tests. He was also one of the extremely few batsmen who made 3 centuries consecutively. Also he was given the wisden award of best cricketer of the year in 1997. His best period was the late 90's. so in my opinion he was the best left handed batsman in cricket.

Brian Lara is a all time great living legend left hand batsman.
