Why do most people have their father's last name?

Does your fathers last name have to be your last name?

  • so i dont know if its just me or this is in other cultures , but instead of having my fathers last name likee everyone else i know , i have my fathers first name as my last name. most people i know in my culture have their fathers last name, yet my families do not have their fathers last name ?

    It doesnt have to be. But in America we usually have our dads last name culture is culture the way you do it sounds cool

It's really nothing but a Cultural Norm. Your name doesn't have to have anything to do with the names of your parents... They could name you "Moonshine FIlbert" if they're high enough... It's just something done to make keeping track of things easier.

Interesting, could just be a cultural norm. Perhaps a Family Tradition.. In my culture we keep and use both last names. fathers 1st moms last You always have the option to change it.
