Why do people treat people with disabilities like they do not know nothing or like they are freaks?
-
I wear hearing aids, and college just started. I am trying to make new friends and hope to find someone to date, but every-time I try to talk to them, they would just walk away, even the girls, and treating me like I know nothing. It not the young people, even the adults would do me the same. So why do these "Regular people" treat people with no respect and like you have nothing to offer? please do not tell me it just part of life In case you want to know about what I mean on "Regular people, it means an group of people with no disabilities I came up with that.

Answer:
Are you a non traditional student? By that I mean are you older than the typical 19-24. Sometimes older people get ignored by stupid college students who think there's something wrong with someone wo wants to go back to school when they're old. But if that, it's similar to that idea. Anything or anyone who stands out, who is different is perceived as undesirable and these shallow students will ignore them. However not everyone is like that. Just keep trying and you will make friends.

well--- could be--- they see in handicap people--- what they fear to be-- and could not handle them selves---therefore ignore and maybe it goes away.

Because they are ignorant. because they don't care and don't have the time to care and understand. Because the world has become cruel and hatred has overcome them and subsided the love, care and concern we all once had for those that are less able and less fortunate, forgetting that they (We) could be in the same situation. These are sad times my dear friend. God love ya, Thank you for caring about those with disabilities. God bless ya and keep you safe. May be some day these words will be recited. It's the same with Veterans ...when was the last time you heard of an OLD veteran being thanked? People have put aside their care for one another and replaced it with "sorry I don't have time to help you... Or WHO CARES!" Man! that one eats at me. Just like the elderly, the are mistreated also. Guess that's why I love'em so much because I still care about people. Where I work, I developed an ICARE program. but it's not really catching on. They don't care some thinks it's something to do with eyes? Go figure.

First of all, I feel for you. People can be cruel and misunderstanding. I have a brother who is special needs and I have found that people tend to act standoff-ish around him because they're unsure of his situation and how to act. For the most part, most of the people we come across who are not familiar with his situation are uncertain what his disabilities are and seem to walk on eggshells around him. I think in these situations you just need to be confident, brush off the people who ignore you and be yourself. If someone ignores you because of your disability then they're not worth your time.

Some people just don't understand, so they get scared and run away, it has nothing to do with you, its them. They just don't understand yet. You will make friends, it just takes time. In your classes just be friendly and say hi to people and introduce yourself, people will warm up to you.

Hello, while i may not have your condition , i have a skin disease called vitiligo (what happened to michael jackson ) and i face rejection as well . Like the poster above me said , its like people dont bother with finding out the real you other than a fixed stereotype , emotionally lazy and probably prejudiced . herd mentality at its best

Ignorance is a main factor. Sometimes people just don't know how to respond and other times they focus too much on the disability and think you aren't worth a care. Unfortunately, there's a chance you'll meet people who not only mistreat you (or anyone else who isn't like them), but also make no attempt to correct their ignorance. There are people out there who don't let stereotypes and prejudice get the best of them. They are the ones worth befriending. Take care.
