Answer:
This happens to just about everyone at this age. Here are my tips for you: Figure out what you want. PT/FT? Seasonal/Regular? Anything? (never let them know you are desperate for work). Until you find employment, your new job is "Find a Job by Selling Yourself". Start early in the day and go to as many places as possible. Ask about the job even if it is not advertised that they are hiring. A lot of places never advertise because so many people approach them. Scope out the place before you apply. Get a feel for the atmosphere and find a few things that interest you. Come up with some questions to ask the manager. Have your answer for why you want to work there. Find out who is in charge and personally ask them about any available openings (most employees will automatically say "no" or "I don't know"). If the manager is busy, just act like a customer until they come to you. If not hiring ask them about other locations or a good time to check back. (I have been offered jobs months later just from expressing interest whenever I happened to shop there). Don't expect anything from your resume other than a cheat sheet for filling out an application. It's nice to have but most hiring managers are more interested in where you are going and what your plans are. Hiring new people is a pain so be able to let them know, to the best of your ability, what your exact plans are. Use places you "do not" want to work for practice. Start at these places to warm up and *just for fun* use only Spanish. You want to work on comfortably expressing yourself and your confidence to preform the job. If you can get along well with the manager in your first meeting you might be hired right there. Don't worry as much about the paperwork as how well you get along with the people working there. Fitting in is the "real application". If the co-workers already like you the manager will notice and it helps a lot. (I don't even fill out work history, education, or anything besides ID #'s and Tax info.) They really don't care about the application if they can get it from you directly. I hope some of these ideas help you. They are the results of my own trial and error.
