How much is the industry discount rate at SANDALS for flight attendants?

What do you think of SIA flight attendants smoking in uniform?

  • In a recent article ( http://www.relax.com.sg/relax/news/426300/Will_askew_girls_tar_image_.html ), SIA flight attendants were spotted smoking in public in uniform. Are "Singapore Girls" -- or for that matter, the male flight attendants as well -- who smoke in uniform tarnishing their iconic and squeaky clean image? Should Singapore Airlines ban their uniformed flight attendants from smoking in public?

  • Answer:

I'm a smoker as well. As for me, I would respect my own employer by not smoking with my uniform on if I wasn't allowed to do so. Probably, I'll find a private spot that no one could bother about me and have my puffs. Definitely it tarnishes ESKEW Airlines but seriously, this person who took a picture of the SIA girls should actually get himself a DSLR FIRST and then he can become a BAPAK-razzi (Bapak stands for father in malay). Why are you so k-po about?? like really... and the fact is, uploading and sending it to STOMP will only TARNISH OUR OWN SINGAPOREAN.... why would you even go to that??? What you can do is just write in to the Employer and let them settle among themselves than probably this bustard businessman would get free air tickets to "DON'T COME BACK" Land. Make sure ESKEW gave him only the one way business trip. sheesh....

a few thoughts here.... 1. Shouldn't they be commended for taking the lead to smoke in a designated area? Aren't they upholding the image of SIA and Singapore by doing so? 2. SIA is neither a military unit nor a school, it is a public listed company. 3. They are not teenagers or kids, Smoking is not equalled to BAD? It is not a crime. Smokers Discrimination? 4. Violation of Human Rights for Smokers? 5. How can you differentiate the guys uniform if they are really banned? 6. The Smoking Corner in the airport may be the only place that you see this. They won't want to be wearing that uniform and smoking down Orchard Road. 7. Singapore has strict rules on where you can smoke, even in the public. It shouldn't surprises any if you spot them in a smoking corner. 8. A smoking client who decides not fly on SIA anymore after spotting SQ girls smoking in their uniform at the airport's smoking corner? And I am a non smoker.....

See your Point..also see theirs. Just when does Privacy start and when does it end. Seems to me that privacy these days and the allowance for a human being to do what they prefer is going on a trip to Mars..a one way trip. How these girls perform in their duties is ONE thing..How they perform in THEIR Private lives is another.

SIA flight attendants already did their part by providing a good service during worktime, so why can't we leave them alone in peace after their work? spotted smoking in public in uniform is common, even army in uniform smoke as well, just that they have "yellow box" in camp, so does that mean SIA is going to set up "yellow box" in island wide for their staff? If not then just take it as Singapore Girls is having their own life as well :)

Just don't do it when you are in uniform in front of people. I don't think anybody bothers what person is doing when he/she is not in that uniform. It is not correct to damage employer's image when they are paying you for your living. SIA should recruit only Non-smoking staff for this type of work. Anyways they are recruiting on contract as they appoint only young and good looking staff for this job. Why not to make non smoking as requirement? I am sure there are many good looking people out there who are non smokers.

When off duty and on their time they have the same rights as any other person. The new paper must be running short of material if they have to run with this and maybe you for following up on it.

I dont think so we need to bother,as they also need to take their stress level out while doing so many flights back to back. They do long flights without sleeping and attending all passengers with smile and without any defect. We should give them atleast their space to vent out and cheer up as they want. (This is just my Opinion)

When these Singapore girls don on their uniforms, they're representing SIA (one of the most successful Asian brands in the world and needless to say, representing Singapore). 'Singapore Girl' is the essence of SIA's unique style of service. She 'mirrors her Asian heritage – natural femininity, natural grace and warmth, and a natural, gentle way with people' (Batey 2002) When u think Feminine, do u think smoking? Grace associated with smoking? "look at her smoking so gracefully" I guess SIA should ban their uniformed flight attendance from smoking in public. To preserve the Singapore Girl image which has proved to be a success and try as other airlines might, it's not something that's easy to replicate. Nothing personal, it's just branding. U don't see Ronald McDonald smoking in front of the kids. Smoking never reflects good on people. It's just a portrayal of undesirable shortcomings-- No self-control, inconsiderate to the health of others and even themselves. Most of all ignorance. Owing to the fact that global warming is so prevalent (Smokers have no right to complain about the hot weather!) and it just isn't fair that non-smokers have to put up with all that stinking, harmful smoke. Not forgetting most are litterbugs. They care not for the environment and the supposed "Clean and green" Singapore to carry an ashtray when they smoke, instead, they generously sprinkle the ashes on the ground and as if the ashes aren't enough, they conveniently leave the cigarette buds behind to indicate that "I have smoked here". How classy. (Personal opinion) Back to Singapore Girls. If they can't so much as curb their smoke addiction and choose to smoke in public thereby risk tarnishing their company's image... go figure.

I believe every person has a right to do what they want after duty or before they officially on duty , If want expect the girl to put off their uniform just to smoke that is ridicules or if the girl just complete their duty and on it's way to home but ahving a puff before leave it just normal to every human who smoke , every one has a right to smoke while in uniform that is the right the employer should respect.
