How can you tell where the Easter Bunny has been?

How early should you tell your kids that Santa, God, and the Easter Bunny are just pretend?

  • Since most adults don't believe in Santa or the Easter Bunny, I'm not too worried about him figuring that one out. But there are still adults that believe some dude created everything, but was only focused on the Gaza Strip. Christianity is scary and there are still teachers, coaches, and family members that make their kids pray. My boys need to know that prayer is just reassurance for those who are mumbling and that there is not an actual dude in the sky listening to them. So are there any good books or videos that help explain how messed up religions are? When would you start telling your kids? Do you start telling your kids "Don't trust Pastors" at the same time you tell them "Don't talk to strangers"?

  • Answer:

First of all, let it come naturally. I defended Santa Clause until I was 10 when my parents told me and I cried. Lol. When your child does figure it out or you tell them, make sure to explain to them not to ruin it for other kids. Children should be allowed their little Age of Innocence for as long as possible. Anyway, I am as disenchanted with Christianity as you are. However, most Christians are not crazy nutballs not to be trusted. Also, most Christians and probably 99% of people who believe in God don't believe 'He' is 'some guy in the sky'. I would say that if you don't personally have a belief system that you throw anchor in, then buy a bunch of different kid's books that describe different ones. Just look them up. Let your child decide for themselves. Religion is not the enemy here. It is people who twist it and turn it into a justification for their bigotry and narrow-mindedness. Religion and spirituality can be beautiful tools for bringing people together, exploring one's self, and connecting. I would say figure out your core beliefs and teach them to your child. For instance, I do believe in God. To me, God is not an entity. God is everything and everyone in the universe and beyond (lol). God is so vast and incomprehensible though, that we need a frame of reference in order to think about God. That's when we start giving God human characteristics. I was raised Catholic by a very spiritual mother and she taught me something so beautiful and simple about Heaven and Hell. God loves everyone and wants them to come to Heaven. However, if you are so full of hatred and anger, that you refuse to be forgiven and reject all that is good, you go to Hell. There is also an apocryphal book that was discovered: Peter II. In it, while St. Peter is alive, he is told that in the days of Judgment, Hell will be dissolved and everyone in it forgiven=Hell is not 'eternal' damnation. He was told this because he asked the simple and logical question, "If God is all-loving and forgiving, why are these people condemned to eternal suffering?" It's believed that this book was banned because it took away the threat of eternal damnation that kept people from disobeying the 'Church'. Thinking this way, if Heaven and Hell are opposites then, Heaven= permanent and Hell=temporary. I have greatly expanded my beliefs since then, but I won't go into all that since I'm already rambling. But a good question is: Why are we taught that if we hurt others, lie, cheat, steal, etc. we will be punished? How about if we hurt others and do these things, we are HURTING others. This fills and burdens us with guilt for a reason, unless you're a sociopath. Anyway, I would say condemning Christians as crackpots and equating God with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus is pretty restrictive on your child and the opposite of free thought. I believe critical thinking and questioning everything should definitely be encouraged. I think it's best to just explain that everyone has different beliefs and what yours are. In the end, morality and love CAN be taught without religion, and that is what is important.

St. Nicholas was real. Words are tools, they are given to us for protection, morality and creation. God, or Zeus gave Pandora and Epimetheus a gift - "Pandora's box", then told them never to open it. Of course Zeus knew that out of curiosity they would open it releasing all the evil into the world, then upon closing it trap the spirit of hope inside. Even to this day people will say hope deceives us. I draw a comparison to the Garden of Eden which I interpret to be earth it's self. God knows we will eat from the tree of knowledge succumbing to dominions munching on God, and that we will be deceived by the snake. God knows that we damage our selves when we do this, and that in doing so there is no hope. Our Apotheosis, Gods master plan? It’s our eyes he's seeing through, That only he understands. i an a Christian, and i find what you said to be very disrespectful. if you took the time to actually learn what christianity isnt "scary". a lot of its beliefs are very simple. and anyway how exactly do you know god isnt real? you dont. believe what you want, but you should let your kids belive what they want. dont try to influence what they believe, it isnt fair. let them figure things out on their own. since santa clause and ect. obviously arent real here is my advice about that-they should be able to figure it out on their own. if not tell them by age 10

I am christian( kind of) who is on the fence about religion. Let your kid know that there are other people with different beliefs who do believe someone is up their. At the same time let your child know that your beliefs are not the same. Just to let you know, 95% of the world does believe in a god of some sort. As a famous quote once said "religion is the human response to being alive and having to die" F. Forrester church

Never tell them it's real. You want them to live believing in obvious lies? You want them to grow up as one of the crazy teens who haunt this section of YA! with their inane, childish questions about finding werewolves, vampires, mermaids and witches? No, you probably don't. Let them believe in one lie "because it's magic", and they will believe all kinds of stupid crap.

Kalontas

No age. Leave them to believe in God and the rest will follow. Friends will tell them about the Easter bunny but if you condemn them to not believing in God than you are condemning innocents to hell right next to you...don't you want the best for your loved ones? Or do you just not love at all?

Chrystal

You should tell them right away.

when ur kid/kids are about 10 years old

crazy

They will find out on their own about Santa and the Easter Bunny, but God is 100% real and if you don't believe let your kid choose for himself. Your child should at least have a chance to go to Heaven!

When I was asked, my response about Santa was he was magic, if you do not believe in magic then you have no Santa. Covers the rest.
