When you are going out if someone asks where you're going, its again the same case. 3. If someone sneezes in front of you bad luck 4. if a lizard falls on your shoulder, believe it or not, even a groom will abandon his engagement! And so many interesting and funny( I don't believe them ya) superstitions haunt the people in my place. What about your place? What have they gotta say? Answer:
"INDIA" In India there are endless beliefs and superstitions governing every aspect of life from birth to death and every single item of daily life. I had listed a few below: For example, most popular superstitions are - -A black cat crosses your path and you go back, -A crow caws and visitors are expected. -A lizard falls on your head and you live in fear of death! Are these omens or figments of an over-active imagination? Did old wives have nothing better to do than cook up tales to frighten generations ever after? Irrespective of the veracity of these, they make for great reading. Here are some evergreen Indian superstitions !!! -Do not ever leave home without consulting an astrologer. Rahu and Ketu, two ominous planets, are waiting to ruin things for you. Wait for the Shubh Mahurat, (auspicious time) based on the Hindu calendar. An eclipse occurs when Rahu and Ketu swallow the sun, and people avoid eating anything, and go and take a dip in rivers after it is over. This also holds true for weddings, naming ceremonies, housewarming rites and everything in life! -A new bride is judged by the fortunes or misfortunes that occur in her new family for a year after marriage. She enters her new home putting her right foot first. -Seeing an elephant during a journey is auspicious as Ganesha, the God who removes obstacles will ensure success. -A dog howling at night chills the blood – a portent of approaching death. -When leaving home, it is auspicious to see a bride or a religious idol. However, sighting a widow or a barren woman is not lucky! -A new bride is judged by the fortunes or misfortunes that occur in her new family for a year after marriage. She enters her new home putting her right foot first. -Menstruating women are regarded unclean and are isolated. They cannot enter the kitchen till they are ‘clean’ again. -Pregnant women are not allowed to travel alone at night or enter an uninhabited home because ghosts might possess them. They should read religious books and watch inspiring movies so that the child grows up to be a good person. -Hiccups indicate someone is thinking of you. But an itchy eye refers to someone maligning you, or your envy of someone. Hair is not cut on Tuesdays and the barber shops remain closed on these days. -Nails should not be cut at night for fear of evil spirits. -Twitching of the eye is highly inauspicious. -When there is a birth or death in the family, the family members are supposed to be unclean, and do not go to the temple till the stipulated period is over. -These colorful customs, no matter how absurd, keep the religious folk busy and the irreverent ones in mirth. - -Many of these customs came about for perfectly valid reasons in the past, but don’t you feel that they are now being followed only as mere rites, like Friday the 13th ? -

Honduras: La Sucia: our bloody mary. La Llorona: a bride that was abandoned in the day of her wedding. El Cadejo: a sort of demoniatic dog that appears to people. Breaking a mirror. Spilling salt. Walking beneath stairs. Crossing paths with a black cat. Seeing a black butterfly in your house: somebody is going to die. Dreaming about losing teeth: bad omen Hearing the dogs howling at night: there are spirits Putting rings on your hands: you are never going to marry (girls)
hola a todos...
Here in the Southern US, if a person shudders, we say an opossum just walked across the person's future gravesite. Also, if someone is sweeping the floor and the broom passes over your foot/shoe, you'll never be married. I had someone get very upset with me about that one once many years ago. I sure hope he eventually found a wife! (-:

I'm Russian; whistling in the house is a no-no, it means you'll end up poor/broke. if I spill salt I'll have to throw a bit of it over my left shoulder otherwise an argument can start :). you can't give someone a gift-wallet without at least a dollar in it.

Here in Bangladesh we have some peculiar ones: 1. You do not trim fingernails at night. (I guess some poor bloke from long ago-when there was no electricity- tried that in the dark, and hurt himself bad!) 2. Do not go out with your hair loose(for girls). 3. If you stumble on the doorway while going out, COME BACK! Sit for a while and then go.... There were a few others, I forgot.

When you sndeze on your way out, come back in, sit down, drink some water and then go out. Do not sleep during evenings especially at 6 o clock. If a cat hits you on the head with its feet, you will experience extreme poverty. If you see your own death/funeral in a dream, it means you will certainly die - i know. wierd. isnt everybody gonna die sooner or later? If you pass salt to someone else, you two will fight. If you bite your tongue, you will fight. If your slipper falls bottomside up, you will fight. If you leave your books open, the devil will come and read them. etc etc etc
Freaky! I had a lizard fall on my shoulder when I was a kid. I've never heard that. I live in Southern USA and it's bad luck to 1. cross the path of a black cat 2. walk under a ladder 3. open an umbrella inside 4. break a mirror 5. spill the salt 6. see your bride on wedding day before ceremony
