How many versions of The Little Mermaid are there?

What are some versions of the little mermaid other than the Disney and Hans Christian Anderson versions?

• I'm trying to do a series of paintings showing how it has evolved over the ages, but all the versions I find are either by Disney or are basically a play by play of the origional. Also could you recomend a different farie tale that has evolved over the years?

  umm, Hans Christian Anderson made up the story himself, so it's not folklore, it borrows from folklore. there is a difference. It has not evolved though the ages, he made his own story from various folklore, but it is his own story, all of his stories are his own creations. So you may want to show the various stories from the Scandinavian area and their depictions of Mermaids/Selkies over the "Ages"
