How was Stonehenge built?

Stonehenge, how it was built and what it means?

  • How could stonehenge be built so long ago when the gigantic boulders of it weigh over a couple tons? Please leave facts or opinions for how you think it was built and what it was meant for. :)

  • Answer:

Some of the opinions and facts I'm going to lay down will be very unconventional, I'm not going to side with the Ancient Alien theory, which suggest it was created by the Annunaki for whatever reason. Nor will I go with the "accepted" version that demands it was built by druids. But let's start with something simple first: Reasonable evidence suggests it was built as some sort of astronomical calendar to plot lunar phases and such. Now I'm not quite sure how to read the stones, but patterns have been piked up between the moon and the stones. Somehow they can determine lunar eclipses with Stonehenge. The solstices and equinoxes can also be charted. There are numerous astronomical calculations and events that can be determined through this massive stone circle. Was this the purpose of Stonehenge or were the ancients just leaving leaving a message or something for future generations to prove they were just more than stone age man? Either or both may be the answer in why. But how they came to build it is a tougher question. Someone suggesting they used wooden logs and rolled the massive stones into place is kidding themselves. Suggesting they used ropes and vines is even more ridiculous. There is an knowledge that has escaped humans that ancient and somewhat more advanced civilizations knew of they helped them build it. Legend suggests it was the wizard Merlin the built Stonehenge. Though most people will dismiss this theory, it's actually no worse than the accepted version. We're supposed to believe that levitation is an impossibility. Tibetans have mastered the ability by using the vibrational waves of sound to cancel out the effects of gravity for a short time. Ed Leedscalnin used reverse magnetism to build Coral Castle. These stones were much too massive to be put into place using any conventional methods. Not just in Great Britain, but all over the world ancient structures were built in areas that resonate harmony with the Earth's Magnetic Field. The Earth's internal energy courses through the planet and along the crust in the form of lay lines, they were known as Fairy Lines in England and Ireland or Dragon Lines in places like China. Some structures like the Pyramids of Giza couldn't have even been built using conventional methods with modern technology. When all else fails you need to speculate with unconventional methods as well. Alexander Thom researched henges around England and rediscovered a lost measurement system that is more advanced than the metric or standard system. He named it the Megalithic System, which has been discovered to work in many ancient structures. There is a lost science out there that modern archeologists don't wish to explore, not because it's wrong, but because it disagrees with the established system of belief, which is not always right. Modern methods have proved Stonehenge couldn't have been built so what other option is there than to speculate something our conventional means refuse to accept out of stubbornness. These stones were clearly too heavy to move using manual labor, why would they go through so much trouble unless they had some form of knowledge that made it easier? Accepting the accepted theories won't lead to any right answers.

Stonehenge is unique among megalithic monuments in its appearance but all along the west coast of Europe they were building huge stone monuments since around 4000 BC, including some with even bigger stones than Stonehenge (the grand Menhir in Brittany was over 80 feet high; tombs in Spain & Ireland have capstones over 140 tons.) The largest stones at Stonehenge are about 45 tons (the sarsens) while the smaller bluestones are about 4-5 tons, though the amazing thing about the bluestones is they were brought over 100 miles from Wales! It was built using sheer manpower, and it was modelled on a wooden structure (it has mortise and tenon joints just like in woodwork.) The smaller stoneswould have been gloated down rivers on rafts, the bigger ones were dragged about 20 mi overland, on log rollers on sledges. The stones would have been tipped into pre-dug pits over A-frames, then packed with smaller stones. the lintels would have been put up by using some kind of wooden stacking (like prehistoric scafolding) to raise them level by level till they reached the top. Gut or fibre ropes would have been used as well. People seem to imagine these tribesmen were some kind of grunting apemen who couldn't figure ouyt anything. In fact they were just like us in evey way, including intelligence.Bring one back in a time machine, give him an education and he could be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon-no problem. They lived in houses, farmed and tended livestock, and had big wooden buildings as well as stone structures. As to its use, well, without adoubt there was ritual/religion going on. There were over 200 people buried in holes around the henge bank, and the fields are full of burial mounds. It's also aligned on the rising midsummer sun and the setting midwinter solstice sun; it may also have lunar alignments. So probably a temple to the ancestors and to the sun/moon which would have been considerd great spirits or deities. Unlike what the poster before me said, there are actually carvings on some of the stones, mostly axes (which are regarded as a sun symbol)but also a dagger, a square box (that may represent a death-goddess), a grid and a few other possible lines, holes and symbols.

The most likely way Stonehenge was built, was that the people who lived in that area and at that time, would have used long, wooden logs, to roll the rocks that fell off huge cliffs to the site, and then used ropes to haul them up. Of course, this didn't happen quickly, it happened over a long period of time. As for what it was meant for, no one really knows. Archeologists are trying to find out, but they can't find anything really... no bits of pottery, no tablets with inscriptions on them, and of course, Stonehenge itself has no carvings on it's great stone pillars... so no one will know. My theory is that it was a temple, for ancient people who worshipped some strange god or goddess. Some believe that at a certain point in the Summer Solstice, the sun would shine in a certain way through Stonehenge. I think this might have had something to do with it's purpose. But I also think that it could have also been a tomb, they buried their dead within all it's circles, and worshipped their strange god or goddess when the sun was at it's right position, and at that time, they had a ceremony for their dead. But that's just my theory. Hope I helped :) :)

Archaeological evidence found by the Stonehenge Riverside Project in 2008 indicates that Stonehenge could possibly have served as a burial ground from its earliest beginnings.[5] The dating of cremated remains found on the site indicate that deposits contain human bone material from as early as 3000 BC, when the initial ditch and bank were first dug. Such deposits continued at Stonehenge for at least another 500 years Now some tell me about the people who built these unbelievable statues knew all about gravity and the way to use gravity to their advantage. Some say aliens came here and gave the people the knowledge. These questions have been asked for centuries and will continue to be unanswered way after you and me are far gone from this world.

In 'Through the Wormhole' (a show on Discovery science) there was an episode about how it is impossible for a primitive civilization to built many of our ancestors' works. They researched the possibility of alien influences, or in other words: extraterrestrials whom influenced ancient Earth. It is possible that such aliens used 'levitation technology'. With this type of technology, it is possible to counteract gravitational forces, and makes objects of any size 'levitate'. Perhaps our ancestors retrieved or shared this technology, and used it to create Stonehenge. Just one of the many theories, though...

Well: Every`since I was a child.,. I think that I can only re`call seeing just a few things `bout [Stonehenge] that might've shared OPINIONS !?! , spoke about how some THINK it was built !?! Some coclusion may've come about or spoken of as`far as this !?!... Seems like I almost always got sick of waiting til the end of most things that I've seen to go off before I'd turn !! or turn it OFF ! ? ! ... Now what I've gathered mostly Is that it started off as or was mainly used for religious cermoms/worship, & I've seen or heard things that had me thinking that if it was'nt used for worship or sacrifices!?! Maybe it was built out of bordem !?! lol... & ...
