Anyone know of other references to Mary Magdalene in popular culture besides The Little Mermaid?
-
Anyone who's read Da Vinci Code or other books about it has heard about some of the references to the 'lost' Mary Magdalene: Ariel in The Little Mermaid, the 'M's' in the Starbucks logo etc. I would love to know where other references to her reside in our popular culture/media etc. (obviously I know many theorize that she's in lots of artwork etc.).

Answer:
"The Little Mermaid" is referenced in "The Da Vinci Code"? I haven't read the book or seen the movie.

If you honestly believe that the Starbucks logo refers to Mary Magdalene, I really don't think anyone can help you. If your standard of proof is that low, you can find Mary Magdalene anywhere. Have you ever noticed how a lot of things like movies, books, etc. have long strings of Roman numerals that begin with MM? That's a reference to Magdalene right there. Remember the movie Ice Age, where the mother sacrifices herself for the baby? The genders were intentionally mixed up to point out the importance of the feminine in early Christianity (much like in The Last Supper), but that woman was really the Christ, and the father, who is reunited with the child at the end of the movie, he is Mary Magdalene. Padme from Star Wars is another Magdalene-- the wife of Anakin, who no one can know about. Anakin himself is the Christian church, who starts off good, fathering Luke and Leia, but turns evil like the church did, and the children (the bloodline of Christ) must be hidden from Darth Vader (the Catholic Church). See, if you will accept anything to fit the theory, everything becomes a support for the theory.

While this may be a fun game, it is all (particularly the Da Vinci Code) all fiction. The interpretations about what symbols mean are more a reflection of those doing the interpreting than the work being interpreted.

The Little Mermaid is the product of tales much older than Mary Magdalene.

Princess Rose, in Sleeping beauty. And if I remember correctly, Snow White also. And sorry Randy but while a lot of stuff in the Da Vinci Code is fiction, it also contains some historical fact. You might want to actually read something and research the FACTS before you state what you BELIEVE.
