What are the superstitions surrounding a solar eclipse?

Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week's total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.Astrologers have predicted a rise in communal and regional violence in the days following the eclipse, particularly in India, China and other Southeast Asian nations where it can be seen on Wednesday morning. It's really frightening and gives me a shiver. Yeah! this superstitious really based on some element of truth. so much happenings but due to the superstitious of Indian culture in which i do believed it it will come true, everything is based on some element to reality...we will see what will happen this coming Wednesday! I hope nothing will happen just like it was said and written.

There is an old superstition, a myth actually, that comes from India about a demon called Rahu also know as Abhra-pisacha, the demon of the sky. He insinuated himself amongst the Gods in disguise & hid between Soma the Moon & Surya the Sun to drink an elixir of immortality reserved for the Gods alone. Soma & Surya found him out & told the God Vishnu who, in a rage, cut Rahu in half with his discus. But Rahu had already drunk the elixir & both his halves lived on. Rahu never forgave the Sun & Moon for informing on him, & with his bodiless head, mouth wide open, has ever since pursued his enemies swallowing them from time to time. Lacking a body, he cannot retain them & they reappear after a short while. He is thus the source of eclipses. I hope you find this interesting. There might be some elements of truth in this because as we all know that all moving bodies produce waves. And as these are very large bodies (sun, moon) they might emit some harmful radiations during eclipses. So we need to look deeper and not to call all these things merely superstitions.

it is not that, any evil force will attack the world. during the particular time of solar eclipse, elders will say we must not see the sun. there is a scientific reason behind it. because, on that time helium gas is more and that is very dangerous to our eyes&health, that's why we are prevented to see the sun at that time. mainly, pregnant women, must not see it. i accept there are some superstitions, but,they are created by human beings on their misunderstanding of dharmasaastras. there is something good in everything told by our dharmasaaatras&elders on that time. an example, they will say we must not lie down by placing our head on north side. because, the air from north pole, is not good to our health.

For example you start keeping a piece of iron during this period saying this will help family members from the bad effects of this eclips. This will be a permanent thing in your familly without giving a secong thoughts why and gradully your surroundings will be also affected with the same acts of keeping a piece of iron during eclipse without thinking why.
