Volunteer Work abroad.

Have you ever done volunteer work abroad, and if so, how did you find it?

  • So basically I can't find a summer job, I've applied to pretty much every retail establishment in town (seriously), and nothing. So I decided to do something useful and I signed up with Volunteers for Peace to do volunteer work in Italy or France, most of the work being things like environmental clean up or some sort of restoration work at historical locations. Right now I'm waiting for this volunteer group to assign me to a project. Once I get assigned, I basically just have to fly there, make my way to the place hosting the volunteers, then I guess I meet the other volunteers and start. I've never done anything like this before. It would be a big independent adventure for me, so I'm sort of nervous, especially when I don't know what to expect at the other end. If you've ever done something like this, how did it go, was it worth it? Any tips?

    Hey JC, there is nothing to fear or be afraid of. the best part of going abroad is the new experience that you will get there. the only advice i can give you is to have an open mind and lower your expectations

Hey I was in the same position as you and came across Coral Cay Conservation: www.coralcay.org you can go to the Philippines, Tobago or Cambodia on diving expeditions etc. I went to the Philippines and it was amazing and definitely worth it, the experience is life changing, go into it open minded, i'm sure italy and france would be a culture shock but you will have volunteers just like you who are nervous too, after a couple of days its seems like you have been friends forever. Enjoy your trip
