Help on volunteer application.

I'm filling in a Volunteer Application form and need help with...?

  • So I'm doing a work placement with my school for Extendicare (old age home basically) And I have to "check areas of interest" but I don't understand what a few of them entail, and I'm not going to call them again. these are the choices... -Escort resident to medical appointments/tests -friendly visitor -writing letters -reading to resident -meal time assistance -pastoral- I simply don't know what this is? -music- what do they mean by music? me playing oorr what? -pet therapy -- does this mean I bring a pet? -bingo caller/helper -crafts -bar and tuck ?? No idea what this means. annnd the rest is pretty obvious. Just those ones I have question marks on or asked about above. Please help, thanks.

  • Answer:

Reading to resident means that the resident is either legally blind or unable to read small print or unable to read the handwriting on the letters they receive. You would sit in a chair and read to the person. You could read the Daily Newspaper, a book, a magazine or read them anything they want. I have a few blind friends, and I think being a volunteer reader is the best choice.
