How can I raise money for a good cause?

Does anybody know how I can raise money online for a cause that is not a registered charity?

• My uncle was recently killed in a car crash in Kenya, where he lived and worked in a remote community to provide aid and develop the local area. Since he passed away, I feel I would like to support his wife so she can continue his good work. I am, however, finding it difficult to locate a website or company that will accept donations for his companies, which whilst being non-profit, are not registered UK charities so sites such as Justgiving.com cannot help me. I have also considered using Paypal or similar but since you have to register before making a payment, I feel this might put donors off - so in short I want it to be as simple as possible. Does anybody know if there is a way I can personally collect donations online to pass on to the community? Many thanks Katie S

  People need to be confident that their donations are going to a bona fide cause and not disappearing into someone's pocket. I can think of 2 ways round this: 1. Set up a website for the Kenyan organisation showing the work it does - lots of pics, etc, details of what, say £10 would buy. Make it professional and name the people involved.You will have to give a UK address for donations if you don't want to use Paypal - although a lot of people like Paypal as they know this is secure. 2. Set up a Uk charity with the objects of supporting the work of the Kenyan organisation. This is a bit more complicated as you will need a constitution, trustees, etc - not impossible, but a bit more structured and controlled. You can then fundraise however you wish and will have the added security of a charity registration number, which a lot of people prefer. E mail me if you want more. [email protected]
