How should I ask a company for sponsorship?

How to ask your company for charity sponsorship?

  • This summer I am undertaking an 80km cycle to raise money for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. After asking all of my colleagues at work to sponsor me, my boss said that I had missed an opportunity as I should have asked the company to sponsor me. I’m fairly new to the company and didn’t really want to push it so I asked but didn’t push when he said no. I then sent him a formal email asking for company sponsorship. His response was “I am sorry, but this years allocation is already gone!” He keeps jesting about how I don’t have any sales skills so I think he is trying to test me. Could anyone offer any suggestions for a reply to his email please? Thanks!

Actually, many company's have a blanket policy NOT to do these kinds of sponsorships - they prefer to give directly to charities. There's some advice on this page about asking corporations for funds that can help you next year: Fund Raising For a Cause or Organization http://www.coyotecommunications.com/stuff/fundraise.shtml
