How can i get my birth certificate?

  • I know this is going to be long, but I really need help. When I was about 5 or 6 my birth certificate was put into a storage unit by my mothers controlling boyfriend and he never payed on it so it got thrown out I would assume. I have tried to order it online but I need to have a valid ID to order it. I do not have a valid ID because I need my birth certificate to get one. My mother cannot order it for me because her controlling boyfriend would not let her get her license renewed and ti expired 4 years ago. Her birth certificate was also in that storage unit. The only people who can get it for me are: a grandparent, which both mine are dead, a parent, but my mother doesn't have valid ID and my biological father pretty much abandoned me at 5, or a spouse but since I do not have any ID I certainly cannot get married. I recently turned 18 and am trying to get my life straightened out. The only form of ID i currently have is my social security card. I was born in Georgia and currently live in Florida so I can't just go to the hospital I was born in. Please help and don't bash my mother for letting all of this happen.

    Call or write to the county that you were born in to request a copy of your birth certificate. you can't get one from the hospital..Some counties you can even request & pay for a copy online.

It shouldn't be too difficult. As long as you know which county you were born in, just contact that county's clerk by phone. You can look up the clerk's office number probably by searching the county's website. Once you get in touch with the clerk's office your birth certificate will be on file there or they will give you the info on how to obtain it and then all you have to do is request a copy. Most of these offices have the option for you to fax your request there. I recently got my BC and it cost me less than $20. You can easily get an additional form of photo ID. It is called an ID card and you can get one from your local department of motor vehicles. It is not a license and you cannot use it to drive, however it does serve as a photo identification, which you will need to be able to verify documents. Good luck.
