Where can i donate clothes in London?

I have clothes to donate...?

  • I went through all of my clothes (good lord, I didnt know I had soo much) and I sorted through them and about half of them I want to give away to donate, but the thing is, is I dont want to donate to Goodwill or someplace like that. I want to donate to where my clothes will go to people like out in Darfur, Sudan or some place like that where it will make a difference. Not just to be donated so somebody can just sell it to make money. Any suggestions on how I can find a place to take this stuff to donate?

  • Answer:

Amnesty International is a great organization that is currently accepting clothing donations for Darfur. Their website says, "People can help us by donating whatever they have. Like what Amnesty International is doing now, getting help for people in the camps. They can donate clothes, shoes, educational material, and money, obviously. This will at least alleviate the suffering of people in the camps." Your motivations are good but the chances of finding any charity actually shipping clothing to Darfur are very slim. You see, the shipping costs are actually higher than the cost of providing new clothing to the people in the refugee camps. Therefore I would suggest that you donate you used clothing to the Salvation Army, because they will either 1) sell them and use the money to take care of the poor and hungry or 2) give them to people who need them.

the salvation army is a good place which is a non-profit organization it makes a difference , you help provide clothes for people who are homeless or cant afford to have a stable amount of money towards clothes

it's quite difficult to find an organization or group that will directly donate clothes to the mentioned countries. they only way to do so is if you personally know of people who are going to that country and are personally bringing the clothes over with them. this can be very expensive, however, and only a limited amount can be taken. your best bet is to donate to goodwill, the salvation army, or another big organization. these places are great and help out the poorer class of people. hope this helps and good luck!

A lot of US churches have established relationships with churches in Darfur & other countries, and bring stuff over there quite frequently. You'll have to call around in your area to find one. If there's a Catholic mission nearby, start with them. There are also US charity organizations where the clothes you donate go directly to needy people, not for resale. Try St Vincent de Paul.
