How do you raise money to volunteer abroad?

Need to raise money to go to Volunteer in New Orleans?

  • Im going on a trip to New Orleans to volunteer build a house with my college. I need to pay however, and im short on money. Any ideas on how to raise money for myself? Thanks!!!

    Is the group going doing any fund raising? You might want to get together with the whole group and try some projects. To earn money by yourself, you could set aside a certain amount from your job(s) and designate that for the trip. You could ask friends and family to donate - tell them that, instead of Christmas and birthday gifts, you would like money to help you pay for your trip. Also ask any volunteer or community service groups you belong to for a donation. Selling things - one girl paid for a volunteer trip by making necklaces and bracelets and selling them. Maybe your college would allow you to have a bake sale or a root beer float sale (or something similar) on campus. Good Luck!

If the cause is worthy, send your family and friends (and you know people who want to get you out of their life...lol) a letter explaining your wishes and asking for help. One person who did it this way, asked for "matching funds". Asking for $ for every $ they raised by working for it....walking/running in a marathon, etc.
