Would anyone like to volunteer in Kenya?

Volunteer Programs throughout the country as well as overseas?

  • I'm not sure if any one has heard of the Free The Children organization, but I heard about it a while ago and i just decided to look into it. They work through this overseas program "Me to We" where people study abroad to places like India, China, Kenya, Ecuador, and Arizona-Mexico and build schools and learn about the struggles that people in places like these face. The people who go and volunteer overseas learn about the culture and the people and help out communities. I'm 17 years old and I've wanted to experience something like this for a very long time now. I want to help people, and I was actually really excited when I saw the Me to We program. Problem is that most of the trips abroad are through Canada, but I live in the US. I also kind of would like to see if I could gather a group of kids from school who would like to go next summer. Does anyone know of any programs that work like this stemming from the US? I would appreciate it a lot

Hi Eli, My name is Jenna. I work on the Youth Engagement Team for Me to We (the social enterprise partner of Free the Children). It’s amazing to hear that you are interested in travelling and volunteering abroad. Me to We offers amazing experiences where you will be able to volunteer within Free the Children rural communities, making a tangible difference, while learning about sustainable development, experiencing unique and fascinating cultures, and meeting volunteers from all over the world! We offer these Volunteer & Leadership opportunities to Kenya, China, India, Ecuador and Arizona-Mexico throughout the summer and they are open for any individual youth (just like yourself). We have many American youth participate so you are definitely eligible! I would love to connect with you to hear why you are interested in volunteering abroad, where you’d like to travel to, and to help make this a reality! So definitely email me at [email protected] and I’d be happy to go into more detail. Be the Change, Jenna [email protected]

Hey eli, Leave UR Mark is based out of New York. It's similar to Free the Children and it is actually much cheaper than Me to We. They work primarily for U.S. based high school and college students. I used them last year for a Journalism Internship. You can check out their website at http://www.leaveurmark.com and email one of the directors at [email protected] to see how you can get involved. Have an awesome time....I had a blast in India! You can also email me personally if you want to hear about my experience.
