How to write a formal letter?

How do I write a formal letter, requesting to complete my Community Service hours at my old elementary school?

• I have wanted from Grade 7 to, when I am able to, to complete and even exceed my Community Service Hours at my old elementary school. Now I'm in Grade 9, and I asked the head secretary what we needed to volunteer. She said we would need to write a letter to the vice-principal stating stuff like, what Grade/Department I'd like to volunteer for, what I'd be willing to od, what hours I'm available, and contact info. I know this has to be a formal letter, obviously, but what's the format? How do I write it? Thanks!

  Find out the name of the vice-principle and address it to that person.Explain what you would like to do but don't go on and on and on. Come straight to the point but be sure you give all the information that is important.Then end with thank you than sign your name.Good Luck!
