How old do you have to be to work at a Vets?

What do I need to write in a letter to my local vets to ask if I can Volunteer there for work experience?

  • Hi Im Laura! Im 14 and Ill be 15 in March and I want to be a vet when Im older. Everyone Ive spoken to about it said that I need to start getting work experence now, including my vet but they dont take on volunteers at my vets. There is another vet practice in my town and one slightly further away in York, that my mums friend works at that take on voluteering students and I want to send them a letter to ask about it. If I cant find work at a vets then Ill consider going to my local RSPCA center to help out too. I just wanted to know what sort of things I should put in the letter to the vets so hopefully Ill be sucessful in finding work there. Thankyou ;)

  • Answer:

You've actually done something quite like it above. Your letter you should probably cover things like: Why you want to volunteer Why animals and vet science, and what animals do you have (as you said "my vet" above?) Which animals do you want to help (pets vs zoos and sanctuaries etc) How much free time you have to spare, and at what times How far would you be willing to travel What types of things would you like to learn Above all it needs to show the same enthusiasm as above, but maybe with just a little more detail. As the meerkat said, Simples! Good luck, and all the best.
