Why should you include volunteer work on your resume?

Employers like to know that their employees are willing to help, assist, and give to the community they live or work in. It also helps make the employer look caring to current or prospective consumers and clients. When you have volunteered haven't you noticed that they will have Company Names attached to these functions? Giving credit to companies like Wal-Mart, or Lockheed Martin or Motorola or Honeywell, etc. in supporting the need in the community. By putting it on your resume you are letting the employer know that you have experience in volunteering but will be a willing participant in company volunteering projects. It also adds the fact that you bring in experiences working with people of various backgrounds and on issues within the community.

It give the prospective employer something to focus on your actual desire to work & if you have a work ethic. Volunteer work & internships are usually looked upon favorably. Volunteer work & internships allow for referrences by people who will be able to comment on your abilities.

Volunteering is working, it is just unpaid work. You will gain experience working in with a diverse population, you will help others who need you. The need is great; the opportunities are endless.

It shows you're willing to commit to anything- like hard work, tricky tasks and anal.
