Where should I start volunteering?

International volunteering? where should I start?

  • I'm looking to do volunteer work internationally, Everywhere I have looked online has had fees over $1000 for a week or two, not including a plane ticket... Is there any like head place I can go to that could help place me somewhere?

    A great place to start would be in Latin America. You could help build schools, donate clothes, donate school supplies, work in an orphanage help taking care of children and teens etc.. I suggest you start in the poorer countries like Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, Boliva, Peru, Paraguay, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras etc. Good luck!!!

First of all, what talents do you have? Then find an organization that would help to place such talents where needed. Nurses and Doctors are needed everywhere... contractors and builders, teachers, or ifyou play a guitar and sing... so many ways to help out in the world. Can you teach someone to sew? Manage a bank account? Teach hygeine. Our son is now doing a Masters degree in Public Health and his wife is an Occ. Therapist... and both have done Overseas volunteer work. In Guyana... and in China. Good luck in your efforts. g

Check out the Peace Corps. They provide for you to live at the same level as the people you are working with. You have to commit for 27 months but they teach how to speak the language of where ever you are placed and give you a little help in transition back into society when your term is up.
