Where can I get donations?

  • I met a needy family and I'd like to know where I can get some donations for them. They need very basic items such as a couch, a microwave and a mattress. Any ideas? Thanks!

    You can go on freecycle.org and join that group in your area. There are thousands of people in that Yahoo group giving away items. Also, if you're looking for food for them, you could try your local food bank or for a small amount of money, try angelfoodministries.com Hope this helps!

As the other poster mentioned Freecycle is a good way to acquire stuff. Also, check with your local salvation army as they sometimes have programs to get families in need up on their feet. I'd also keep an eye out for stuff on Craigslist. I don't know what area you're in but I've seen all of the items you mentioned up for sale for as little as $15 in both Chicago and Pittsburgh, so the stuff is out there. Also, check with Catholic Charities and see if they are available in your area. They are a great resource for needy families. I think it's great that you are going out of your way to help friends! :)
