How can I get community service?

How can I get more involved in community service?

  • I want to do stuff for my community but don't know where to start. I am under 16. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Answer:

First decide what you are good at, which is probably also what you like to do. Like to cook? Homeless shelters always need people to help out. Like animals? SPCA needs dogwalkers. Like senior citizens or chilren? There are lots of opportunities there, like hospital visitors or summer camps. I suggest you try the local YMCA, the library, and your school for opportunities. Not only is it rewarding but you can put it on your resume when you start looking for work later on. Good luck, and good for you!

in school events check out who is the person who is organizing the event you could go ask if they need any help on organizing the event or need help during the event. i hope it helps :)

Your school counselor should have some ideas. Churches usually have youth groups that do incredible things. You do not have to be a member of the church. Just go into the office and tell them you are interested in community work.

SWEETSONG--I LIKE WHAT I HEAR-THERE ARE MANY PLACES FOR A YOUNGSTER TO SLIDE INTO THE MIX FOR THE GOOD OF FOLKS THAT ARE IN HARD NEED--JUST SIMPLY INVESTIGATE THOSE AVAILABLE--BE SURE AND TAKE YOUR PARENT AND OR GUARDIAN INTO THE DECISION..there are food banks / shelters / meals on wheels / hospital helpers / social services helpers all of which would love to have you give them the opportunity to show you what they do ..I'm proud of you and I don't even know you.......you see I'm a Shriner (the kid's hospital guys with the funny hats ?) and I love what we do--its hard at times but the pay offs are absolutely marvelous when you see the faces of some of the people that have been helped.--KEEP YOUR VISION LITTLE DARLIN AND GOD'S SPEED

I can't honestly answer this question. I am a horrible mean person. BUT......I have loved my neighbors....so much. Think really hard about the one person on the street whom no one ever see outside. That is the one who needs your help. That person is probably homebound and unable to perform the simplest of tasks. Example: Changing a light bulb. Taking the wash out of the washer. We befriended an AMAZING lady with so much spunk and personality she made me smile upon seeing her. She passed recently...but the night she did....(we had called EMS) she told those paramedics....."get the hell out of my house....I want to die here". She died that night....BUT I WILL NEVER forget her. People with history and our limited to their homes would love a little taste of freedom. Your presence and helpful tasks around the house....are a blessing in disguise. Peace.

This is great that you want to become involved in your community. It's okay that you are under sixteen too! I volunteer at a nursing home and we have a group of 7th, 8th, and 9th graders come and help with BINGO. The people there love young people visiting and helping them out all the time. I think you will get a good feeling by doing something with the elderly. There are other things you can get involved in such as your church or synagogue. Also, if there are some people in your neighborhood that need help and cannot do it themselves, volunteer your services. For you being under 16 and wanting to help out your community, gives me a big smile. I know you must make your parents proud.
