What are your top developmental opportunities?

Careers in Social Work. What are the opportunities in this sector?

  • Courses like MA in Social Work, Developmental Studies, Social Entrepreneurship are really interesting, and they pull some heartstrings, as this matter is close to me personally. I am very much interested in pursuing 1 of these courses inTISS ( tata instt. of social studies, Mumbai), but i would like to know the real world opportunities in the field of social work. I know i can work for NGO's, have my own start up. Its about passion for the wellbeing of others. However, i also want to look at the practical dimension. (For myself, as well as, to convince family, esp. a High rank Officer Dad!) I have read that we can get job in the UN, World Bank, even Planning Commision! But what is the reality of these stated scopes? How real are the opportunities? And what is the way ahead?

  • Answer:

"Careers in Social Work", the term itself is self explanatory. Please split this two as Career & Social Work. Career that one and all are needed or asking for. Social work is entirely a separate field and to decide the liking to this subject. There are many fields in this subject, specially NGO's, Old Age Homes, Physically handicapped, Worker's welfare and many more, but you should have your choice/intention clear and can choose the field with an open mind. Social work field is mainly intented for to serve the needed, down-trodden, and it may be added also as work to live. Wish you a happy choice.
