• How was your experiece like and what advice do you have for someone considering in joining?

  Peace CORPS, pronounced "core" but spelled like Marine Corps. I served 2 years. It was the hardest. most rewarding job I had in my life, and the most adventuresome. My main advice, if you haven't finished college, is to change your major to something useful; civil engineering, for instance, or TEFL. Take floridated tooth paste with you. Brush religiously. Learn the local words for private body parts and sex acts in as many of the local dialects as you can. "pokey" means "slow" in english but means "female genitals" in Iban, Malay and Kelabit. Be carful of your English; "pennies" sounds like "penis", so say "one-cent coins" instead. When you come back, change your local currency before, in their banks, not the US; no one in the US wants Kenyan Schillings or Malaysian Ringitts, so the exchange rate sucks. Prepare to be embarassed in good humor. Write privately if you'd like more.
