I think it's great you want to volunteer! Some ways you can find out about volunteer opportunities are at your school, newspaper advertisements, and also taking the initiative to contact an organization directly. A valuable web resource is www.volunteermatch.org. You can search by your city to see if there are any opportunities available. I did a search and found the following: Assist with the Senior Mobile Food Pantry for the Phoenix Family Housing Corporation. Contact Information: 3756 Broadway Ste 4 Kansas City, MO 64111 Phone #: 816.561.1033 Web Site: http://www.phoenixfamily.org Email: [email protected] You can also help distribute flyers once a month in your city for Operation Wildlife. You need a car for this position. Contact Information: 23375 Guthrie Road Linwood, KS 66052 Phone #: 785-542-3625 Web Site: http://www.owl-online.org E-mail: [email protected] Good luck!

Your volunteer center can help you find specific community projects and non-profit agencies in your local area to help you make an impact in your community. Many volunteer centers have youth programs or can refer you to appropriate youth volunteer projects in your area. Here are some links to help you get started: http://www.handsonkc.org/ http://www.handsonnetwork.org/our-network/ http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/find_center.cfm http://national.unitedway.org Through my volunteer center, I tutor children at the library, enrich arts and culture by helping visitors at the local museum, work at the local food bank, children's shelter, and clean our neighborhoods, parks, and beaches. Good luck!

It's great that you're willing to volunteer! Look into clubs at school that specialize in volunteering or any events that your school is putting on. Contact local senior citizen assisted living homes or your local civic center. Theres always the yellow pages! I knew a girl who volunteered at an animal shelter and another that worked filing for a planned parenthood. There are so many options, but you have to call around. Good luck and ave fun!!

Contact the library -read to kids Church of the Nazarene Headquarters in Kansas- available local events for kids during the summer. Goodwill services- help disabled adults/kids School office sometimes have postings for summer activities for young people Chamber of Commerce might have listings for people looking for summer help Assisted living facilities are always looking for people that are available to play games with their residents (checkers, chess, other activities) My grandmother loved bingo and in her declining years loved to have help so she could still play.

You could work at a homeless shelter, animal shelters, churches (many programs), or contact the united way. They might have something for you.
