How can I volunteer somewhere?

How can a 14 year old volunteer?

  • i really want to volunteer, at LEAST 100 hours this year, (i'd say about 60 by the end of 2011). but the problem is that when i try to volunteer at animal shelters and vets (i really love animals), or even like nursing homes, they require a parent to be there the whole time. in my opinion, thats STUPID! both my parents work and cannot waste their time sitting there "babysitting" their teenage kid while they help out. so what other volunteer work can i do (legit, not just raking a neighbors yard or babysitting a friend for free) that doesn't require parent supervision? and i really want to go to animal shelters, so how can i like prove to them that i can do it without my parents there?

  • Answer:

Those places that wont accept you without an adult are doing that for legal reasons, and as for finding volunteer work elsewhere, you can try a local church if your family is part of one. Or go to your school principal and tell em that your interested in volunteer work and see if they have any ideas for you or at least point you into the right direction. Things like cakewalks, marathons, bake sales, and care washes are all things many schools do on a regular basis. So just flipflop with some ideas and see where they lead. You could also type in "creative volunteer ideas" in the search engine and see what you get. Hope that helps
