Is World Vision a scam?

Is World Vision corrupt or using its position to convert people?

  • I keep hearing people say this, but haven't found any specific sources. I have only found information regarding corruption of NGOs in general, not specifically World Vision. Could someone provide links to legitimate sources proving/exposing corrupt World Vision practices? I am a World Vision sponsor and a Christian, but I wouldn't want them using their position and someone else's vulnerability to convert people. And don't bother with one word answers or some diatribe against Christians that has nothing to do with the question.

  • Answer:

I have supported World Vision for years. They are one organization where most of the money goes directly to the projects rather than "administration". 87% of the funds raised go to the programs -- see their annual report for 2006. World Vision has even assisted New Yorkers not covered by other aid programs during 9/11. This is a great organization that has been around since 1950. (I agree with your comments on some NGOs -- they do not all have the same values). In our home each child gave their own money to a World Vision child and selected a country for the funds then received the updates/correspondence. I feel it made our children think about the world and not just their own needs.

I agree with the person above. Also, I do not see how it is "corrupt" to convert someone. It's not as if World Vision gains anything by telling someone Jesus can save them. I mean, how do they get any kind of corrupt benefit from that? All a person would really get is the good feeling that someone they care about is going to Heaven.

I haven't heard anything about World Vision, but don't know a whole lot about it. I checked their site and looked for 'key phrases' or certain names known to be less than upright, and didnt' see any. As for the conversion aspect, of course they would promote Christianity, they are Christian, but my understanding is that you don't have to be Christian, pretend to be Christian or even have to sit and listen to a sermon to get help. It seems it's more about helping others.

BOTH ACTUALLY. SEE SOCIETY TODAY IS MANIPULATED BY THE GOVERNMENT THAT SO CORRUPT YOUR HEAD WILL EXPLODE. THE WORLD IS FILLED WITH PROPAGANDA TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WILL SELL IT TO YOU AT YOUR FRONT DOOR. THE WORLD IS A MANIPULATIVE BASTARD THAT COURSES THROUGH THE VEIGNS ON SOCIETY AND INFLUENCES MAINLY BAD THINGS AND TO BUY POINTLESS PRODUCTS, ADVICE, AND IS BIG IN THE SCAMS. NATURALLY ANY IDIOT WILL COME TO YOU ASKING FOR CASH IN THE NAME OF GOD. IT'S UP TO YOU IF YOU'RE SMART ENOUGH TO SAY NO.
