Whats a good paying job that helps people and isn't in the medical field?
-
I like helping people but don't want to work in the medical field. I don't have a lot of time so volunteering is difficult. So I'd like a job were I can get paid doing something worthwhile.

A women's Shelter. If you have the heart and some good listening skills,i don't know where you reside but in general a social work career or something in the field of the humanities is good to start with.

You can help people improve while earning a 6-digit income if you earn a college degree and work in specialized foster care rehabilitating teenage juvenile delinquents with psychological disorders. Upsides: * You can be a "stay at home mom" and work simultaneously. * Higher than average income. * If you do a great job, you will earn tremendous respect from your peers and community, which largely involves people saying "that must take a lot of patience!" Downsides: * You can be a "stay at home mom" and work simultaneously (yes, I repeated this one). * Obscene work hours: basically your work is your life. If you never arrange for respite workers, you will essentially be on the job 24/7/365 with no vacation, sick leave, or personal leave. Without a respite worker, "vacation" means bringing the kids with you and that can be a mild headache to (if you work with sex offenders) a nightmare. * Nobody wants your job - including potential mates, which means if you want a sex life you had better be married before you enter this profession! Even then, you both may be too tired to think about it at the end of... oh. Wait. Did I mention they like to sneak out late at night too? Final analysis: Most helping professions face the dilemma of either not getting paid much or doing something that other people really, REALLY don't want to do. In some cases, barriers like ridiculous licensure requirements helps reduce the pain of the actual work (clinical psychologists need PhDs, but do they really need to study as many years as a doctor?) or the high-paid work really is that painful or life-consuming. If all you're concerned about is income, you can get it, but you'll soon realize that there were other values you had (your time/life) that you will realize are at least as important. Another possibility is to reframe your thinking: Is business really not helping people get the products they need? Is engineering really not designing better products for people? Maybe these fields secretly desperately need people like you to improve their human angles? Be creative and imagine new possibilities because career pioneers also tend to be well-paid! Good luck!

Try getting a job at an animal shelter. Working with people's current or future pets is very rewarding. I did it for years. Also, consider getting a license in cosmetology. I am working on mine and you would not believe how rewarding it is to make someone not only look better, but feel better too. Some of the people I work with don't get out much and you can see that when they leave the salon they are not only looking better, but they are so happy to have had someone to talk to for awhile. It's a really fun and worthwhile profession. Think about it.

Have you ever thought about teaching? That is a great job and service if you wanted to be helpful and give something back to society. Or children need great people who are called to serve others.

Real Estate. I used to be a sales agent, and its really rewarding knowing you helped someone find their dream home and helped them get it financed and get through all the red tape. And the more homes you sell or rent, the more $$ you make. It can be done full time or even part time.

Home Care Aid. You can contact Addus Healthcare. You will oversea or run errands for the elderly or even assist as companion to them. Very satisfying job, as for pay is not that bad.
