Volunteer work for a 13-year-old girl?

Does volunteer work look as good on a resume as a paid job?

  • Im a 17 year old girl, homescholed in my senior year of highschool. was thinking about either getting a part time job or doing volunteer work. I've never has a job before and I was wondering if volunteering, say at a hospital, counts as much as paid work? I don't really care about making money right now, and I thought volunteering would be more rewarding than, say, bagging groceries, because you get to help people. So which is better on a resume a paid job or volunteer work?

  • Answer:

I think any kind of work experience is good. Employers generally look positively on volunteering, suppose it shows that you are willing to muck in and do that little bit extra without expecting getting paid for it. It will definitely help you in a long run. Plus - you can even decide that you would for example enjoy working in that sector and meet people who could help you in your future career.

Either. It's just that in volunteering work, you are unpaid. Though you still get financial benefits such as allowances and reimbursements. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities right now, why not start in Red Cross or any plasma blood banks in the country? A link on directory of blood banks is posted below.

"Im a 17 year old girl, homescholed in my senior year" Your mother needs to work on your spelling and grammar then. Do you see the spelling mistakes in that sentence? "So which is better on a resume a paid job or volunteer work?" Work that relates to what it is you want to do for paid work, or that shows a great deal of responsibility, is what counts most. Bagging groceries is nice - it gives you a paycheck, and if you have the job for, say, a year, it shows responsibility. Organizing a community garden that involves several people and educates people about raising their own food and provides fresh produce for a local food bank would show leadership and organizational skills that bagging groceries doesn't.
