Would like to volunteer on Christmas...what can I do?

I am interested in doing volunteer work on Christmas eve or Christmas day. I was thinking of bringing my dog with me to visit a nursing home because I have read that there are so many seniors that have nobody visiting them on Christmas..but this is just an idea I have. I am open to doing other things too. Does anybody know if I can do something like that or can anybody suggest where I can find out what kinds of volunteer things I can do on Christmas? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is a nice idea, but could I make a suggestion? Nursing homes are flooded with do-gooders during the holiday season. The Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, high school kids, etc. Why not wait until the end of January, when everyone is ignoring them again?
