Where can I volunteer?

Where can I volunteer (Westdale area, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada)?

I need to finish my 40 hours volunteer service which I have not even started yet. Bunch of people I know are volunteering in our local library doing reading buddies (where you read to bunch of children or something like that). I went to my guidance counselor, yellow page, online, and my parents, and I can't find any place to volunteer that is within 10-25 minutes of walking distance. I live in the Westdale area next to the Westdale high school. I don't want to just volunteer for the library, I am not ignorant but I want to volunteer in different places. Please help me out, and I will choose a best answer.
