How can a 14 year old volunteer for a vet?
-
okay, i love animals and want to become a vet...but i need about 100 volunteer hours per year, because my school requires it each year (it doesnt HAVE to be at a vets office but i want it to be because to get into veterinary collage you have to have at least 400 work-experience hours). so im in 9th grade and the year is almost half over and i have 0 out of my 100 hours done...but its not my fault. i've emailed and called 3 vets already and they all say you have to be at least 18 to do volunteer work there. how is that fair?!? how am i supposed to get 400 hours to turn into my college application if i turn 18 like a month before i go to college? that makes me so mad, so how am i gonna get my animal "work experience" AND volunteer hours this way? i really want to prove to them that i am a straight A+ student in all honors classes and im very serious about becoming a vet....but they wont listen. :( does anybody have any suggestions? (p.s. animal shelters are the same way, but you can have a parent with you, but both my parents work so that is not an option). i dont know of any zoos aroundm where i live either. so my main question is, how can i be able to work at a vet? because that would be the perfect volunteer job and it could turn into an internship type thing when im a little bit older. if there's no possible way, what are other animal-type suggestions that i can get my 100 hours done by june? i need help, im panicking!

You can't until you're 18 because of bite risks and health insurance.
Important life lesson: you can't always have things your way. Time to shift gears, dear. You have found out that you cannot do your community service hours at a vet or an animal shelter. So now you need to look at the list of places you CAN volunteer - the kinds of places all your classmates are going to - and choose one.
