Can I mail a small box in the mail box using post office?

What's the difference if I mail a letter from a corner box, box on post office property or a 24 hr office?

  • I wonder if it's worth the time and gas to drive to the 24 hr post office if I want something to get there as quickly as possible? Are the pick-up times on mailboxes accurate? I thought they started an early pick-up time. Does anyone have inside knowledge?

    The post office keeps a close check on the times the boxes are picked up. They are scanned when the route man picks up the box. They have to be accurate or the man chances to lose his job. There is no difference. All mail goes out at the same time each evening. Don't rush to make it to the post office. Nothing will change. The mail must go on.

I have tested the method by mailing from both. They either arrive the same day or one day apart. I have found the pick up time to be accurate on the boxes as I have seen the postman stop for the pick up (sometimes running a little late).

Call around and ask about the pick up times. Mail boxes usually have it posted on front.

It doesn't really make that much difference as long as your mail is there before the pick up time. Even the 24 hr post office only has mail that goes out at certain times.

None! It all goes through the main post office for delivery.
