I have an interview for volunteering at a hospital.

What to wear and what can I expect at a volunteering interview?

  • I am going to attend what this place calls a group interview and I'm not quite sure what that means. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I don't know if I should wear a suit or go casual. Should I dress the same way I would if I were applying for a job? Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Answer:

When you're applying for a job, you dress according to the expectations of the job. I certainly wouldn't show up in a suit when applying at McDonald's, a day care center, or a supermarket! For the hospital, I'd shoot for something like "business casual", which often means nice slacks and a shirt with a collar and perhaps even buttons. Low-end business casual is khakis and a polo shirt. Nothing skin-tight or low-cut or revealing, no bra straps showing, no lower-back tattoo or muffin top peeking out. They're not going to expect volunteers to wear a suit when they're volunteering, that's why wearing one for a "group interview" sounds like a bit too much to me.
