Where is the Salvation Army Auction?

Did this Salvation army ad go too far?

  • i live in New Zealand and was just watching TV when this salvation army ad came on, i do admire a lot of what the SA do, and that they help people and rely on donations to do so, but this ad/commercial just made me feel weird, they were asking for donations as usual but in the form of that people should remember what the salvation army had done/does and that they should remember the SA in their will, is it just me or does asking for money in people's wills just a bit weird and a bit creepy and over the line? has anyone else ever seen such a ad? do they ask that too in other countries?

  • Answer:

i've never seen this in america. i agree, though. it is a bit over the edge. asking to be in people who you don't know's wills? sure, they can ask for donations. but that's a little creepy. you're not alone, here. ;)

No. Many nonprofit organizations are spreading the word about estate planning and requesting to be included. This is modeled after the way Universities have relied on Alumni to bequeath large amounts of money,

I'd say with baby boomers reaching the "planning for death age" that they are using good marketing decisions by going after a large group of people that are more likely to have money.  This age group is also more likely to have felt personal hardship and be willing to give.I'm sure they tried to handle it tastefully, but it is a difficult subject.
