Volunteer work for a 13-year-old girl?

Community volunteer work for a 13 year old girl?

  • I wanted to get involved in with my community and with volunteer work, but I don't know where to start. It would be great if you could suggest anything in the southwest side of the San Fernando Valley. Mainly in Northridge or Reseda. If it helps, some of my interests are books, sports, and being active. I'm good with kids and people in general; I like to talk too. I haven't tried pets or tutoring yet, but I would like to, yet I'm inexperienced. I want to do it weekly, mainly over the weekends and over the summer when I'm usually free. I can't think of anything else at the top of my head right now, but if I do, I'll update my question. Thanks.

  • Answer:

You could help at a local brownie unit (well they won't be called brownies in America but i don't know what they are called). To you, I think they'll be the ones younger than Girl Scouts. In the UK you have to be 14 to leave guides (like Girl Scouts) and to start being a young leader but I'm not sure how it will work in America. You might want to look at this website.. http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/

Some volunteer/community service groups you could look into include American Red Cross Rotary Clubs Key Clubs Interact Clubs All of these organizations are centered around volunteering for and improving a community. Vicki's idea is good too. I was a Girl Scout until I graduated from high school. You would be able to mentor younger troops in your area, if you wanted. Definitely look up Girl Scouts, too! Another option is something of a co-ed group like Girl Scouts. It is a branch of Boy Scouts--I think it's called Challenge Crew or something like that. (Boy Scouts actually takes girls, too)

How about these? The Special Olympics, Tutoring younger children to read (like a big sister), The local library, or Adoptig a grandparent at the local nursing home.
