Ideas for volunteering abroad?

Volunteering ideas/help for 14 yr old?

  • I'm 14, and doing nothing this summer. I live in the (general) philadelphia area, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about where or what kind of volunteering I could do? I'm not really old enough to get a job, I think, so if anyone had any ideas about volunteering opportunities, like maybe hospitals or something? Any volunteering that would take 14 yr olds would be great!!!!

At 14, you will probably need an adult to volunteer with you. You could check the library and see if you could read in their story hour. If you can't do that; have a food drive; "Oodles of Noodles" is a pasta drive that is usually very successful for the food pantry. Collect new toothbrushes and hairbrushes for the domestic abuse shelter. Collect blankets, hats, gloves for the homeless shelter. Collect used blankets and towels for the animal shelter. The need is great; the opportunities are endless.

Churches and non-for-profit orginizations are great. Many many churches need all the help the can get because of their limited budgets. Many need summer help painting and cleaning. Ask around they will glady help. I have worked (for pay), voluntered, and supervised volunteers in Chicagoland doing this stuff.
